It appears that we've found the reason people would want to come to Germany.

Bacharach is a small village on the Rhein known for its wine, hence its name. The large photo above is that of our charming hotel, Im Malerwinkel. There are footpaths leading from it to the town center below. Although I awoke our first morning with vertigo and felt quite ill, by the afternoon I was well enough to go with the family on a bike ride along the river. The air was filled with the sweet aroma of surrounding trees and plants in bloom. The temperature was

moderate and there was a gentle breeze which kept us cool.

There are something like 12 castles along this section of the Rhein and we visited one called Rheinstein Castle before turning around and returning along the bike path. Just a bit of friendly advice,

take care when photographing while riding. Today we plan to take a boat ride downstream to St. Goar, where there is another castle that is quite the tourist attraction.
Enquiring minds want to know...are you flying/driving/railing to your side-trip destinations?
ReplyDeleteWe flew from London to Edinburgh. We drove by car down through scenic England before returning it to Heathrow. We went by train and bus while in Reading. We took the Chunnel to Paris and back. And, ever since arriving in Belgium we have been going by Eurorail. The first couple of train rides the boys were very excited, but now they just ask, "How long until we get there?"
ReplyDeleteI love the quaint little hotel. It looks beautiful there. I be the boys are loving all the castles. I want to hear more about the biking and photographing? Was there an incident?
ReplyDeleteWell, yes, but it was merely a flesh wound and I was still able to return back to our village riding (and wincing) along. Isaac had a little problem with his bike, but it was fixed with a little elbow grease. Time and bandaids heals all wounds.
ReplyDeleteIn case you weren't aware, Morgen is morning in German. Whenever one greets another here, you say, "Morgen", for good morning. I think of your little guy as I say it. It's a very pleasant way to say hello.
