HIGH ADVENTURE or Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Wow, what a day we had here in Switzerland! Yesterday we began our day taking a gondola from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp(4879 ft.). We then hiked along the mountain trail to Murren(5361 ft.). Although the boys might claim that this was torture, it was a fairly easy hike, I may even call it a walk. It took between one and two hours, with a lot of stops along the way. And, although we were surrounded by the towering snow covered Alps it was surprisingly warm. At Murren we took a gondola up to the imposing peak of Schilthorn(9748 ft.) where we ate lunch at the mountain top rotating restaurant, Piz Gloria. Clouds covered the tops of the high peaks around us, many of which were over 13000 feet high. We didn't see James Bond up there, just mountains for as far as the eye could see. It was thrilling to descend via gondola, seemingly suspended in air until we reached Murren. We then took an easy walk down the path to Gimmewald, a tiny Alpine settlement, looking for Heidi, but only found her goat. We took the gondola down to the valley floor and on the return to Lauterbrunnen we stopped at Trummelbach Falls. This sight consists of ten glacier waterfalls tumbling inside the mountain made accessible by an interior tram. It was fantastic to experience. It was a combination of slot canyon, cave, and 20,000 liters of water per second. Our photos cannot do justice to the magnificence we've seen here.

Yesterday we rode a couple of gondolas up to the top of a snowy peak. There was a restaurant up there that spun around so you could see everything around without walking around it. It was 9,798 feet high. We also went in a cave and saw hidden waterfalls that you couldn't see from the outside. They were AWESOME!!!

Today we went up to the top of the mountain to the Schilthorn. We walked and took three gondolas to get there. The elevation was 9748 ft. There was a restaurant that we went to up there where part of the floor moved around so you could see all the way around. Then we came back down and saw 10 cascades hidden inside a mountain. They were really loud and cool. Then we came back and had dinner at the Hotel Oberland. I got Rosti. It was really good.
