We've Arrived!

After two days of jetlag recovery for the boys and I, during which Steve worked in Reading, England, we flew to Edinburgh, Scotland. The boys have enjoyed taking photos of almost everything. The following are excerpts from their journals along with photos they took themselves. March 28, 2009

Today we went to the Edinburgh Castle. It was very interesting. There were lots of old cannons. There was a 6-ton cannon that could shoot a boulder with a diameter of 1.5 ft. two miles. Also, one of the other cannons is shot off every day at 1 p.m., except on Sunday. The castle was built on an extinct volcano. There was a weapons room and there was lots of history about kings and queens. It was very cold, but it was very fun. We also saw the crown jewels.

We got here on Friday. The next day we went to a castle. It was awesome. We got to see the crown jewels. We also saw weapons and uniforms and cannons. There was this really big cannon and this really cool cannon that still gets fired. It was very windy and cold in the castle.

  1. Wow! That castle looks pretty cool. I always like learning about castles and how they were built. I would love to go there someday. You should have taken me in your suitcase. I can fit! (It might not have been a very comfortable flight, though.)

  2. P.S. - I tried to comment on the first post, as well, but it wouldn't let me. Nathan is sure getting some long hair. He should fit in well in Europe, though, I guess. Anyway, we hope you guys have so much fun, and we'll be excitedly watching for each new post!

  3. The castle looks the same as Amy & I left it. I hope you are having as good a time as it looks like. It is a great idea for any family to get away for a LLLLLOOONNNNGGG vacation together. This blog is a great way to remember your experiences. Thanks for sharing.
    Love, Michele
